“Weepa” — pronounced weh-pah — is a Puerto Rican shout of pure joy. Chef Emanuel Jiménez brings that joy to Central Avenue.
Our Story
Opened this past spring in the former Mami’s La Cubana space in downtown Hapeville, Weepa Puerto Rico refreshed the cozy café with mango-colored walls, island-inspired paintings, plants, straw hats and Puerto Rican flags. Tables sit close, plates come out steaming, and everything is cooked to order — so there may be a wait, and it is worth it. Tall bottles of pique — vinegar-steeped chiles, garlic and herbs — sit on every table for a tangy splash over rich, savory bites.
Island favorites made fresh when you order them, from mofongo relleno served in a traditional wooden mortar to whole fried snapper.
Find us at 579 N Central Ave in Hapeville — a cheerful stop for lunch or a casual dinner, preferably with someone willing to split a few things.
